FreeCORE 15.1-RC6
A LAN-attached network mode and Export for Linux for Applications, a configuration file for moving to TrueNAS SCALE, the completed web interface, and the FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p4 corrections, in the sixth 15.1 release candidate.
FreeCORE 15.1-RC6 is the sixth release candidate on the 15.1 line. It adds a LAN-attached network mode and Export for Linux to Applications, writes a configuration file for moving to TrueNAS SCALE, and completes the move of the web interface onto the modernized shell. It includes the fixes in 15.0-U1.9 and everything in 15.1-RC5.
Release date: 1 October 2026
RC6 is for evaluation, not production. Test it on a system you can restore or reinstall. The published CORE compatibility results do not establish that every catalog application or migrated workload works correctly.
Applications
- A LAN-attached network mode. An application can take its own address on the LAN through the bridge the iocage jails use, and can keep a second address on the Applications bridge to reach the managed applications. Each installed row shows its LAN and bridge addresses.
- Export for Linux on each installed application writes a Docker Compose bundle with a copy of the application's data, for a Linux Docker or Compose host. The export checks the free space first.
- Catalog entries carry their provider's icons, and the image ships the current Daemonless catalog, so a fresh installation lists the catalog with its icons before the first Update Catalog.
- Update Catalog fetches the new compose file of a reviewed entry, so a new release of an application installs; an upgraded system kept the compose files of its first catalog instead.
- A catalog entry in a newer provider format is no longer marked unavailable because of documentation fields the reader does not know.
- A managed application keeps its address on the Applications bridge across restarts.
- Provider icons drawn for light backgrounds are outlined on the dark themes.
Convert & Import
- More recipes. The remaining single-volume recipes are complete, applications whose data spans several volumes or keeps a configuration file outside its data directory can be converted, and n8n, Mealie, NocoDB, Heimdall and code-server convert from a Linux source.
- The Jellyfin and qBittorrent recipes no longer accept the LinuxServer or
hotio images, whose data layout differs; a Linux bundle's data may sit
inside a mounted directory; and a
:latestLinux source takes its version from the image label.
Configuration
- Save Configuration can write a file for moving to TrueNAS SCALE: the configuration in the form a TrueNAS SCALE installation accepts, with a README that lists each pool's ZFS features and the TrueNAS release that can import the pool.
Web Interface
- The web interface completes its move onto the modernized shell: the tabs, sliders, Pools panels, top bar, sidebar, page layout, job list, sign-in page and the remaining form controls. Pages keep their places and their behavior.
- Sign-in failures are shown on the sign-in form instead of in a pop-up message.
- The pool manager asks for confirmation before Force is turned on.
- The Dashboard's Pool card marks a pool that is 80% full or more on its usage line, instead of repeating the figure on a second row.
- The GUI SSL Certificate setting shows the certificate's name instead of its number when the list loads late.
Jails
- Plugin jails created on an earlier release start again: the start path accepts manifests that store booleans and numbers as strings.
Virtual Machines
- The QEMU Guest Agent accepts the filesystem freeze commands, so hypervisor backups of a FreeCORE guest no longer log freeze errors.
Data Protection
- Replication with a speed limit works again: it failed with
throttle: not foundand now limits throughmbuffer. - Cloud Sync: the OneDrive drive list works again; it is read through Microsoft Graph.
Accounts
- Accounts with the SFTP-only shell
scponlycan log in again.
Base System
- The image ships the GPU firmware that 13.3 shipped for the Intel, AMD and Radeon graphics drivers.
- WS-Discovery (
wsdd) parses network XML with its hardened parser again. - The debug bundle records boot environments with
bectland enclosures withsesutilinstead of failing those sections.
Security
- The base system incorporates the FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE-p4 security and errata corrections: SA-26:64 through SA-26:69, EN-26:23 and EN-26:24.
- Security and maintenance updates to bundled software: nginx 1.30.5, OpenVPN 2.6.23, rsync 3.5.1, Python 3.12, popt, AsyncSSH, PyJWT, urllib3, AnyIO, typing-extensions, GitPython and soupsieve, and the Intel CPU microcode.
VM Compatibility
15.1 supports UEFI VMs. Existing GRUB and UEFI-CSM definitions remain visible, but cannot run or be edited. Their disks are not converted. Prepare and test UEFI boot while still on 15.0; see VM Firmware in FreeCORE 15.1.
Install or Update
RC1 through RC5 systems receive this candidate on the FreeCORE-15.1-STABLE train. Installed applications keep the managed network mode; the LAN-attached mode is chosen per application.
From 15.0, the notes for RC1 still apply: update to 15.0-U1.3 or later first, and the move to FreeCORE-15.1-STABLE is one-way. Staying on FreeCORE-15.0-STABLE keeps a system on the maintained 15.0 line. Back up the system configuration and workload data before choosing 15.1.
The exact installer is FreeCORE-15.1-RC6.iso, with a detached signature and SHA-256 file. Use the installation guide's verification procedure with this exact filename and digest:
